Een origineel juryrapport schrijven over Rik Mol is een niet eenvoudig. Rik Mol is op jonge leeftijd al doorgebroken als jazz trompettist en is in zijn genre zowel nationaal als internationaal bekend. Het aantal hits op Google op zijn naam is nu al enorm en zal gezien zijn grote talent alleen maar toenemen. Hij heeft al vele bekende prijzen op zijn naam staan o.a. Yamaha Trumpet Jazz Award, het Prinses Cristina Concours en European Trumpet Contest. 

Zijn eerste cd ‘What’s on Tonight’ was gelijk een daverend succes en is buitengemeen goed ontvangen. Gerenommeerde recensenten spreken van een toptalent. Buiten het spelen met verscheidene toonaangevende muzikanten is hij erin geslaagd een groep om hem heen te bouwen, met hoog aangeschreven Nederlandse jazz artiesten.
Zijn muziek kenmerkt zich door de veelzijdigheid en het toepassen van cross-overs met hip hop, house, funk etc. Dit wordt door velen, jong en oud gewaardeerd. Door zijn muziek levert hij een belangrijke bijdrage aan het culturele klimaat.

Rik Mol zal een kort concert geven met zijn band in 't Beest na afloop van het officiële gedeelte.

It has been nearly 3 years since the release of my first album "What's on Tonight?!", and I'm really looking forward to kick off the release tour for the new record. I have to work on my stamina cause hopefully I am gonna be performing a lot! and I can't be out of breath! so tredmill here I come.. We are now planning concerts and festivals around Europe. GOES - De Culturele Raad reikt dit jaar de Culturele Prijs uit aan muzikant Rik Mol. Dat is vandaag bekend gemaakt. De prijs wordt pas in het najaar uitgereikt.

Mol werd gekozen uit 13 kandidaten. Hij brak op jonge leeftijd door als jazz trompettist. Volgens de Culturele Raad is hij in zijn genre zowel nationaal als internationaal bekend. “Het aantal hits op Google op zijn naam is nu al enorm en zal gezien zijn grote talent alleen maar toenemen. Hij heeft al vele bekende prijzen op zijn naam staan o.a. Yamaha Trumpet Jazz Award, het Prinses Cristina Concours en European Trumpet Contest”, aldus de raad.

On Thursday the 2nd of October 2008 Rik Mol received the Stimuleringsprijs of the Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds from the Commissaris van de Koningin Karla Peijs.
In Porgy en Bess Jazz Club in Terneuzen, in the south west part of the Netherlands, filled with bigwigs and jazz fans, he received a cheque of 10,000 euro and a beautiful work of art by Paul and Menno De Nooijer. Rik Mol will use the money to produce his second album. "When I heard the message that I would receive this price, I needed money for my second album, becauce I had a budget deficit" he explained. Rik Mol receives this award beause he delivers a contribution to the renewal of jazz, by mixing them with influences from pop, hip hop, funk and dance he creates a sound that is very attractive for a young audience. The music at the perfomance was jazz. After all those South American rhythms it is good to play jazz again, he refered to his tour with the Nueva Manteca along South America last month.

The Lion’s club cultuurprijs,with a prize money of 5000 Euro was given to Rik Mol. The Lion’s club recognise and celebrate the achievements of arts and cultural organisations, projects and individuals, who have contributed to the thriving and vibrant country we live in. The Awards celebrate artistic and cultural activity, covering a wide spectrum from the arts to museums, heritage to cultural events and performances. The award ceremony will be on November 19 at Arsenaal-theatre Vlissingen. Rik will also play a set with his live band.

Trumpeter Rik Mol (1985) receives the Stimuleringsprijs 2008 from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
The award ceremony will be on Thursday October 2, led by Commissioner of the queen Karla Peijs. Rik will also play a live-set with his band at the ceremony. this all happens in jazzpodium Porgy and Bess in Terneuzen.

According to the cultuurfonds the trumpeter delivers ' a contribution to the renewal of jazz. " ,, By mixing them with influences from pop, hip hop, funk and dance he creates a sound that is very attractive for a young audience, "says the fund. Mol recently released its first own CD: What's on tonight? on Challenge Records Int.

The prize is a sum of 10,000 euros. That money has to be spend on a second CD. Who wants to attend the concert can sign up through the Cultural Fund: 0118-682500 or zl@cultuurfonds.nl. The cards are distributed in order of notification.

Rik Mol is also in the race for the Edison Award, which will be handed out at the end of november. Except Mol, there are two candidates: Sensuàl and Room Eleven. VOTE HERE!

In Vrije Geluiden een verslag van Jazz op het Dak 2008. De zesde editie alweer van dit inmiddels gerenommeerde tweedaagse festival; Jazz en grootstads contouren versmelten op magistrale wijze.
Met: The Low Frequency Tuba, vier virtuoze tubaïsten met repertoire van Frank Zappa en Jimmy Hendrix; Rik Mol het grote jazz en trompettalent van Nederland die door MTV en ander jeugduitingen probeert vooral jongeren te bereiken en uit Italië de virtuoze neobop saxofonist Stefano di Batista.

 

Saxophonist Ben van den Dungen and Rik Mol founded their first band together when Rik was only 17years old. They started playing hardbopjazz, but nowadays they lead a band that is a mix of danceable grooves, fresh funk and jazz. For the first time they are going to make a record together as co-leaders of the group. The band will be the live band that Rik played with last year during his “What’s on Tonight?!” concerts. From right 2 left: Eric Hoeke- Drums, Sven Figee-hammond/keyboards Rik Mol-trumpet, Ben van den Dungen-sax, Marius Beets-Bass. Also Rob van Bavel (not on the picture) will be featured on rhodes/grand piano.

One of the biggest newspapers in Holland Algemeen Dagblad made an edit of the movieclip and put it on their site. Rik was very suprised to see the edit and never said he's going to record a duet. It is true that the musicians Derrick McKenzie-drums Rob Harris-guitar and Paul Turner-bass also play in a English popband tough . Rik: "I'm very excited to work with this group of extraordinary musicians. I have a lot of respect for them, and admire their musical ingenuity. I can't wait to get in the studio with them and start recording the music for my CD."

At the moment Rik is still writing songs and busy with pre-production for the album. Next week Omroep Zeeland TV will come to the studio for an interview with Rik and to make some shots of the writing session.

Rik Mol played with his band at the "Jazz op het Dak" festival in Amsterdam. The Dutch television (VPRO) recorded 2 songs and a short interview with Rik. They will broadcast it in the Dutch music program "Vrije Geluiden" (Free Sounds) The interviewer also invited Rik to come on the show for a extended interview and to play some more with his band. We will give an update as soon as more information is available.

We get a lot of messages from people who are concerned about Rik’s health, and if he is able to play live. Rik was in the hospital for 7 days because of a virus, and feels fully recovered now. The concert touring schedule will continue as planned. Rik was overwhelmed by all the cards and get well wishes. He would like to thank everybody for their support.

Rik Mol has started recording his second full-length album, which he plans to release around January 2009.

The trumpetplayer/producer is hunkered down in the still-being-completed studio "Marmelade Music", in Delft (NL). They're still busy with painting and laying the floor in the control room, but all the equipment in the studio is ready to get started. Take a look at the website of the studio: marmalademusic.nl

There are also recordings planned in London with some of the finest pop-musicians of that city. With this new record Rik's multi-faceted musical approach offers a jazzy and funky array of goodies for the Funk/Soul/Dance heads to get their teeth into.

Rik's debut album "What’s on Tonight?!" is finally available in stores nationwide from January 2008 on Challenge Records International.So there's no excuse for not having it by the time it's February...
In 2007 we already released a promo of this album with all the 11 tracks, close to 2000 people have this promotional copy of the album. This was not a official release, Challenge Records will release the official copy of What's on Tonight?! Marcel van den Broek designed a new booklet, and it looks great! Go get it!

Rik Mol is part of the Challenge Records International family. After some weeks of negotiating, the record deal is now signed. Other Challenge Records artists are: John Pizzarelli, Cedar Walton, Dutch Jazz Orchestra, Harry Allen and Monsieur Dubois.

Rembrandt Frerichs, Ben van Gelder en Rik Mol naar finale Pianist Rembrandt Frerichs, saxofonist Ben van Gelder en trompettist Rik Mol gaan door naar de finale van de Deloitte Jazz Award 2007. Juryvoorzitter Peter Krom maakte dit gisteravond bekend na afloop van de spannende voorronde in Lantaren/Venster te Rotterdam.

 

Naast de drie gekozen finalisten namen pianist Franz von Chossy, saxofonistJoris Posthumus en zangeres Xandra Willis deel aan de voorronde. De deelnemers traden op met het trio van bassist en voormalig Deloitte Jazz Award winnaar Stefan Lievestro.

"Robeco Jazzcafe live!" is a live recording with various groups, among them the Rik Mol Quartet. This recording captures a live performance of The Rik Mol Quartet in an intimate setting, as if you were seated third row center. This live recording certainly isn't as polished as Rik's studio album "What's on Tonight?!" (highly recommended, by the way) but there sure is a lot of fun documented here. Rik has a love for jazz that shines through in this live set.

Recorded August 4, 2006 at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

The debut album of Rik Mol is finished!

Rik just got his new custum made Thomas Inderbinen horn. Rik already plays Inderbinen Trumpets and Flugelhorns for some years now.

Thomas and Rik met for the first time in Frankfurt Germany (March 1999) on a big music fair. Until that day they never heard of each other. Rik tried the horns anyway, and felt in love with Thomas Inderbinen Trumpets and at the moment he is the proud owner of:

• "Alpha" Trumpet
• "Studie" Trumpet
• "Wood" Trumpet

Rik Mol: "The Inderbinen Flugelhorn Wood is honestly the best flugelhorn I ever played on, and I tried them all!" Thomas Inderbinen makes instruments for among others:
Roy Hargrove, Randy Brecker, Candy Dulfer, Michael Brecker, Till Broenner, Dave Liebmann etc..
